’23 New York Fashion Week Trends & How To Style Guide

Strong statements, avid activism and political criticism where at the core of the styles shown this year at New York Fashion Week. The designs featured displayed designers’ pent-up creativity, channelling their observations of the last two years into controversial, thought provoking pieces.

Metallic Moments

To describe the individuals chosen by Uruguayan-born designer Gabriela Hearst as ‘models’ alone would be a sordid disservice. In response to the recent decision by the US Supreme Court to reverse Roe v Wade, Cecile Richards the former president of Planned Parenthood marched a metallic number down the runway, alongside other activists.
Heart’s collection was said to have been inspired by ancient Greek poet Sappho. Soft shapes feature gold detailing which structures the silhouettes and adds an armour to everyday
looks.

This stunning suit speaks for itself and needs a shoe that can match this strong style. Our designer block heels, particularly the ‘June White Boots’ meet their match when styled with this suit. The pearl shoes compliment the classic cut of the suit, while the pearl detail plays into the pattern featured throughout.

The glamourous gold of this look would most certainly be enhanced by a few Freya Rose additions. Our ‘Vermeil Hoop earrings’ would enhance the glamour of this look, while the delicate drop-pearls add a feminine touch to this strong style. This look is fierce and our ‘Rose in Bloom Noir’ designer pearl heels would be the perfect addition to add a sultry style to this outfit.

Khaite certainly made metallic a signature style throughout their collection this New York Fashion Week. Backstage, creative director Catherine Holstein described her audience to Vogue as, “That independent, New York, strong, stealth woman—that is who I’m designing for.” With this in mind, our crystal jewellery and bag can complement the look in mind. Our ‘Long Rose Gold Pearl Drop’ designer pearl earrings add an elegance to the cool, icy shade of metallic used. Additionally, our ‘Athena Pale Blue Mother of Pearl Bag’ complements these shades, while the chrome detailing adds an element of soft glamour.

Say it with Sequins

Sequins outshone many styles at New York Fashion Week. Classic cuts were swathed in sequins and the glitz and glamour turned up a notch. Bella and Gigi Hadid stole the show when walking for Tom Ford this year. The sisters’ sequined styles demanded attention. Other designers translated their sequins into stylish fits, more suitable for life off the runway.

Michael Kors took classic glamour and gave it a makeover. The flecks of light reflecting off the sequins contrasts the dramatic darkness of this dress and creates an intricate look. Our ‘Micola Noir’ pearl shoes compliment the characteristics of this classic dress, while introducing Freya Rose’s signature style via the pearl design.
Our ‘Silver Crystal Long Drops’ are the perfect addition to this look. The drop-down style creates a classic glamour, while the crystals enhance the glimmer of the sequins. Adding these Freya Rose pieces, would be the perfect addition to help create that classic glamour with a twist.

The moment Bella and Gigi Hadid took the runway this year, they established that glitz and glamour were in! Their looks may be best kept for the runway, however if you are looking to dazzle up your wardrobe we have some glistening pieces to add to your outfits.
Our ‘Embellished Wedding Shoes’ bring the glitz and glamour to classic bridal couture. Whether these designer heels are for the runway, aisle or special occasion, their dazzling detail puts a twist on their timeless design.

Slip Dresses

Jason Wu presented this fabulous floral slip dress at New York Fashion Week which we at Freya Rose adore. The shin-grazing hemline lends itself to our ‘Flora – Pearl Heel’. The lace up detailing uses the leg on show to showcase these fabulous pearl shoes to the max.

The effortless elegance of the slip dress invites accessorises to take centre stage. As this piece from JW Anderson provides a blank canvas, you could add our ‘Medium 22ct Gold Weave Cuff’. Arm cuffs were a staple accessory featured throughout multiple designer’s shows this year.

Gabriela Heart’s army clearly took charge of New York Fashion Week. Dictating the trends to emerge from this global fashion event, not only was it Heart’s use of gold but also her sultry shaped slip dresses which caught the fashion industry’s attention.
Here at Freya Rose our ‘Halo Champagne’ designer heels complement this breath-taking look. These heels provide height and extend the drama of the dress. To maintain the glamour of the gold while feeding into the movement of the dress, why not add our statement pearl earrings ‘Hand Carved Mother of Pearl Rose Drops’.

Seventies Glam!

Looking at the styles and trends to emerge from New York Fashion Week, sustainability seemed to be at the forefront of the collections presented. Time periods were revisited, celebrating the fashions and exploring how past pieces can be reused. Designers had fun, capturing the cool, chic, laidback looks of the seventies. Boho was back with a vengeance. Crochet bell-bottom jumpsuits featured fringe detailing hanging from plunging necklines.

We absolutely loved The Blonds collection here at Freya Rose. With denim jumpsuits set to take centre stage this coming spring, our designer pearl jewellery is the perfect addition for that playful aesthetic. Our ‘Celestial Mother of Pearl Gold Star’ statement pearl earrings and ‘Star Pendant 22ct Gold Vermeil Necklace’ perfectly complements this seventies style.

Suits are a staple for us here at Freya Rose but can sometimes be a little serious. That’s why we are absolutely loving Vivienne Tam’s take on a seventies-style suit. Remodelling stiff silhouettes, Vivienne Tam’s use of bell-bottom trousers gives way to feature some equally seventies-style shoes. Why not add our ‘Glory’ designer pearl heels. These pearl shoes, encapsulate that seventies glam with a playful twist.

Ulla Johnson certainly embraced her inner hippie throughout her most recent collection. Here at Freya Rose we are embracing this laidback look, with our effortlessly elegant statement pearl earrings and pearl shoes. Our ‘Hand Carved Mother of Pearl Rose Drops’ complement the movement in the pattern of this dress, while the gold detailing brings a subtle element of glamour. To carry this look from dawn till dusk, our ‘Freya Rose x Bertie Valentine ‘June’- Pearl Heel’ accompany the natural tones of this seventies style.
Rockin’ Retro
Some have put it down to Baz Luhrmann’s new film ‘Elvis’, but regardless of the reason, retro was all the rage at New York Fashion Week this year. Oversized suits, shin-grazing hemlines and micro-minis were in.
Minimalist oversized suits featured heavily throughout this year’s shows. Tibi’s oversized suit provides a sophisticated, relaxed fit which could be combined with a few Freya Rose pieces to add that timeless finish.
Our crystal jewellery, particularly our ‘Gold and Black Crystal Long Drops’ add a subtle charm to this classic look. For our busy Freya Rose customer, our ‘Kate Petit Black’ bag maintains that cool aesthetic, fitting the no-frills attached brief.
To complete this look, our ‘Zahra Noir’ designer pearl shoes bring character with their chunky design.

Batsheva Hay is a Freya Rose favourite and she did not disappoint this New York Fashion Week. With her inspiration said to have come from late 1960’s Yves Saint Laurent, we are loving her take on ‘party dresses’. If you’re looking for that Swinging Sixties style, than look no further than our ‘Jamelia’ designer pearl shoes. These boots are made for walking and with the sixties party dress looking to serve you from day till night, our pearl shoes are on hand to do just that.

Alaïa rocked the retro theme with this Mary-Quant like piece. The mini skirt is a fun favourite which lends itself fondly to our ‘Mineko – Pearl Heel’. Our designer pearl shoes provide a dramatic decadence in their aesthetic, while the boot cut enhances the shortness of the skirt and adds a playfulness to the overall look.

From the trends to emerge from New York Fashion Week this year, our designer pearl jewellery, crystal jewellery and array of designer block heels and pearl shoes certainly provide a timeless element to these timely trends.
